Situated at the eastern tip of South Central Railway, Visakhapatnam is a haven of long stretches of sunkissed beaches. Once a small fishing village, Visakhapatnam was transformed into a bustling port town by the British. Today, Vizag, as Visakhapatnam is known, is famous for its natural Harbour, India’s largest shipbuilding yard, the steel plant among the many industries, and of course the panorama of golden beaches against the backdrop of green mountains.

How to Reach

Visakhapatnam is well connected by rail from Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Mumbai, Chennai and Calcutta, by virtue of its location on the Vijayawada – Calcutta line.

Golden Beaches of Vizag

Miles and miles of golden sands is what Vizag is all about. The Ramakrishna beach, Lawson's bay and the Rishikonda beach, stretch long into the horizon.

Dolphin’s Nose

A breathtakingly beautiful natural formation that juts into Bay of Bengal like a dolphin.

Kailasagiri Park

Located atop the hill of Kailasagiri, this park offers a stunning view of Vizag and its grand vista of beaches.

Bhimli

The twenty two-kilometer ride to Bhimli from Vizag along the beach is simply fantastic. Bhimli plays host to the relics of the ancient Dutch settlement, even while enthralling the visitors with a great beach.

Borra Caves

Situated on the road to Araku Valley from Vizag at a distance of 90 km, Borra caves boast of magnificent stalactite and stalagmite formations that date back to one million years.

Araku Valley

112 km from Vizag is the beautiful valley of Araku, which enchants visitors with its scenic beauty, wooded forests and tribal dances. The journey up this picturesque valley, at an altitude of 3100 feet on the Eastern Ghats is simply awesome.

Simhachalam

About 16 km from the port city of Visakhapatnam is Simhachalam, the Hill of Lord Narasimha Swamy. Tucked away in Eastern Ghats, the temple is set amidst picturesque surroundings. The idol in this temple is always covered with sandalwood paste.

Annavaram

Annavaram is one of the most visited pilgrim centers in Andhra Pradesh, located on the Vijayawada – Visakhapatnam railway line. The temple of Veeravenkata Satyanarayana Swamy is situated atop the Ratnagiri hill on the banks of River Pampa.

Rajahmundry

Situated on the Vijayawada – Visakhapatnam route, Rajahmundry is a historic city with great religious significance. River Godavari is seen in all its glory here. The Rail-cum-Road Bridge and the Rail Bridge of
56 spans, the only one of its kind in South India, present impressive sights.

Kakinada

Located 45 km off Rajahmundry, and well connected by rail from Rajahmundry, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, is the port city of Kakinada. The well planned city boasts of vast stretches of serene beaches.
