Tirupathi, the abode of Lord Venkateswara
is the richest temple in the world that attracts pilgrims in millions everyday,
from all over the world. Tirupathi represents both the temple town at the
foothills and the main pilgrimage center, Tirumala, nestling 3000 feet
high. While Tirumala is the very symbol of divinity, there are many places
of historic interest and natural beauty around Tirupathi.
How to reach Tirupathi is well connected by Rail
from Hyderabad – Secunderabad. Four trains run daily, between Hyderabad-Secunderabad
and Tirupathi. On weekends special trains are run between Secunderabad
and Tirupathi to cater to the extra rush. Tirupathi is also well connected
by Rail from Bangalore and Chennai.
What to see
Tirumala Nestling among seven hills, Tirumala
shrine is a masterpiece in Dravidian architecture. The exquisitely carved
golden sanctum sanctorum of the Balaji temple, Papavinasanam and Akasaganga
waterfalls, and Silathoranam, the longest & the oldest natural bridge
in the world are places of great interest.
Other Temples Tirupathi is truly a temple town.
Govindarajaswamy temple in the heart of the town, Kapila Theertham at the
foot of the seven hills, Padmavathi temple at Thiruchanur, Srinivasa Mangapuram,
and Sri Kalahasti temple present a conglomeration of divine abodes to the
pilgrims.
Chandragiri Fort Located just 20 kms off Tirupathi, Chandragiri Fort is a living testimony to the greatness of the Vijayanagara empire. Built on a huge rock about 56 mts. high, the fort has the remains of palaces and temples of the Vijayanagar era.
Horsely Hills The famous hill resort in Andhra
Pradesh is 144 km from Tirupathi. Situated at an altitude of 1265 mts.,
Horsely Hills are delightfully cool and beautiful. The nearest railhead
to Horsely Hills is Madanapalle Road, 43 kms., from the spot.
Puttaparthi Puttaparthi is the abode of Bhagwan
Satya Sai Baba, where devotees from all corners of the world flock all
through the year seeking spiritual solace. Dharmavaram is the nearest railhead
to Puttaparthi, at a distance of 30 km.
Lepakshi Lepakshi houses the famous Veerabhadra temple and the astounding monolothic Nandi, that has come to symbolize not only the Shaivite culture in South India but also the very cultural heritage of Andhra Pradesh. The nearest railhead to Lepakshi is Hindupur, which is 16 kms. away, on the Hyderabad – Bangalore line. |
